Key ownership statistics

RVIA currently reports 8.1 million U.S. households own an RV. Its owner profile also reports 16.9 million households interested in RV ownership within five years. RVIA says the median owner age is 49 and first-time owners represent 36% of current owners. The organization’s 2026 federal policy profile reports median annual use of 30 days.

2026 travel demand

In its August 2026 travel-intentions release, RVIA reported that 23 million Americans planned an RV trip during the fall, more than 11 million planned RV travel over Labor Day, and more than 9.4 million nonowners planned to rent or borrow an RV during the fall.

Camping participation

KOA’s 2026 Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Report says more than 52 million North American households camped during 2025 and attributes a $66 billion economic footprint to camping and outdoor hospitality.

RV wholesale shipments

RVIA reports 342,200 wholesale RV shipments in 2025. Its Summer 2026 forecast lowered the expected 2026 range to 300,000–328,100 units, with a median of 314,000. Through July 2026, RVIA reported 183,592 shipments versus 213,338 through the same period in 2025.

Industry economic footprint

RVIA’s Market Pulse dashboard currently cites an annual U.S. RV-industry economic impact of about $140 billion, nearly 680,000 jobs and approximately $48 billion in wages.
