Battery capacity should be sized from daily energy use, not from a generic “bigger is better” rule. Doubling amp-hours roughly doubles stored energy, but it also changes recharge requirements, space and cost.
Convert amp-hours to usable watt-hours
A 12.8V 100Ah lithium battery stores about 1,280Wh nominally; a 200Ah bank stores about 2,560Wh. Actual usable energy depends on the battery management system, temperature, discharge limits and inverter losses.
Inverter use changes the answer quickly
Coffee makers, microwaves, induction cooking and other AC appliances can consume hundreds or thousands of watts. Short high-power loads may fit a 100Ah bank, but repeated inverter use can make 200Ah materially more comfortable.
Recharge capacity must scale with storage
A larger battery only helps if you can refill it. Solar watts, converter output, alternator charging and generator time should be sized against expected daily energy use, not battery capacity alone.
Space and expansion strategy matter
