Compare usable energy, not nameplate amp-hours
Two batteries with the same amp-hour label can deliver different recommended usable capacity depending on chemistry and manufacturer guidance. That affects how much battery bank you need for the same off-grid load.
Charging system compatibility matters
A converter, solar controller, alternator charger or inverter/charger may need settings appropriate to the battery chemistry. Replacing batteries without checking the charging system can leave performance on the table or create operating problems.
Cold weather changes the lithium conversation
Some lithium batteries restrict charging below certain temperatures unless they include heating or protection features. AGM has different cold-weather behavior. Owners camping below freezing should evaluate the complete installation environment.
Use cost per usable cycle
Upfront price divided by rated cycle life is only a rough comparison, but it is more informative than purchase price alone. Include expected years of ownership, replacement labor and whether the weight savings or extra capacity changes how you travel.
