RV Water Filter Micron Rating Explained
A lower micron number means finer particle filtration, but finer filtration can also reduce flow and clog faster when source water is dirty.
Micron rating describes particle size
Micron claims are most useful when you know whether the rating is nominal or absolute and what the filter is designed to capture. A single number does not describe taste, chemical reduction or microbiological performance.
Finer filters need upstream protection
When campground water carries visible sediment, a coarse prefilter can extend the life of a finer downstream cartridge. This staged approach can preserve flow and reduce replacement cost.
Flow is part of performance
A filter that technically captures very small particles but produces an unusable shower is not a good system for the RV. Compare flow at realistic pressure and after the cartridge has accumulated some load.
