Original campground-price research

National park RV campground prices by state & region.

We grouped 108 sourced RV-eligible campground and campsite-price records across 23 national-park units by their state or multi-state region. This exposes where the tracked federal-park camping sample is cheapest, most expensive and most variable.

2026 state and region campground-price benchmark

The table ranks the current source groups by median nightly fee. A state with one premium full-hookup RV park and another state with mostly non-hookup NPS campgrounds are not equivalent products, so use the service mix and underlying park links before treating the medians as direct price comparisons.

Why the state ranking can move

This is a living database. Adding a newly verified campground, a distinct electric or full-hookup tier, or an updated published fee can change a state or region median. That is intentional: the benchmark follows the underlying sourced records rather than freezing a headline indefinitely. The original seven-park fee index remains available as a fixed historical study.

Service mix matters more than geography alone

National-park RV camping ranges from primitive and non-hookup sites to electric and full-hookup RV parks. Higher-priced regions can reflect a greater share of upgraded RV service rather than simply higher prices for the same campsite product. Use the Campground Fee Explorer to filter by service level before comparing like with like.

Methodology

RVVerdicts uses public National Park Service campground, fee and management pages. Each database row records the park, state or multi-state region, campground or site class, nightly fee, service level, status note when relevant and primary-source URL. Group-only and hiker/biker-only products are excluded from the headline RV comparison. Distinct service tiers remain separate rows instead of being blended into a single campground price.

For multi-state parks, the database preserves a combined region label such as WY/MT/ID instead of assigning every record to one state arbitrarily. This page therefore uses “state / region” throughout. See the full database methodology for row-level sources and caveats.
